Soil Moisture Sensors
Water Sense Labeled Soil Moisture Sensors communicate with the controller to reduce water waste outdoors while keeping landscapes healthy. Soil moisture-based irrigation controllers, also known as soil moisture sensors (SMSs), are one option to help you achieve water-efficient irrigation scheduling. By detecting the amount of moisture in the ground beneath the landscape, SMSs override scheduled irrigation when plants don’t need water, helping reduce water waste and promote plant health.
Things to consider when shopping for a plug-in or add-on Soil Moisture Sensor.
- Is it compatible with your current controller?
- How far will the probe location be from your controller?
- Can it connect to your system at the valves?
- Does it have the ability to enable or disable irrigation at a variety of moisture depletion levels.
- Is it precise is keeping the pre-set moisture threshold.
- Is it responsive to changes in soil moisture.
- Can the sensor mechanism withstand freezing and thawing.
- Can it accommodate watering restrictions?
- How deep does it need to be burried?
