Smart Irrigation Controllers

Things to consider when you look for a Smart Irrigation Controller.
- *Does it have the WaterSense label?
- *Does it have a shutoff switch?
- *Does it allow for manual operation and zone testing?
- *Does it have a battery backup to save program settings in case of a power outage?
- *Does it adjust to local weather conditions? Will it turn off the sprinklers when it rains or apply more water when needed? Does it adjust watering in relation to wind speed?
- *If not weather based, can it interface with add-on sensors?
- *Can it accommodate local watering restrictions?
- *How many stations or zones do you need? (4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 24 )
- *Can you customize the start and run time schedule for each zone? e.g.,
- Lawn in full sun and in full or partial shade
- Drip irrigation to bushes and trees
- Flowers and vegetables which require more water than the lawn.
- *Does it have a Cycle-Soak feature? Cycle-Soak applies small amounts of water, several times over a sprinkling cycle to prevent runoff and allow the water to soak deeply into the roots.
- *Does the company carry replacement parts for future repairs?
- Is it capable of letting you know when it is not receiving weather signals or local sensor input?
- Is it easy to install and program?
- Is it Wi-Fi or Bluetooth enabled?
- Can you control it with your phone when you are away?
- Does it come with a remote-control device?
- Does it have a flow meter to detect and alert you if a pipe or sprinkler is broken?
- Does it monitor electrical wiring and alert you if a valve is not working?
- If it has a touchscreen, is the screen easy to read in bright or dim light?
- Can it be placed inside or outdoors?
